About the Book:
Miss Gail Alton was not having a good day. Or a good year. First, she’s strong-armed into attending the Season as a foil to her beautiful sister Evangeline. Then, while riding her mare in the park, she gets toppled by a stuffy, self-important, too-handsome-by-half “gentleman” who has the audacity to blame her for their fall into the chilly lake! Little does Gail know that the very same man will soon be found in a compromising position with her sister...
Forced into asking for Evangeline’s hand in marriage, Maximillian, Viscount Fontaine, can’t take his mind off the irksome girl who threw him from his horse and who can match wits with him at every turn. He’s determined to follow through with his best intentions, yet he can’t deny that Gail makes him want to cast propriety aside—and whisk away the sister of his soon-to-be bride…
Check out our Exclusive Interview with the Author!
1) What’s the first thing you do when starting a new book?
Procrastinate. I sit down, fresh, blank page ready to go, and… I goof off on the internet for untold hours. Eventually I get bored of this enough to write some sentences. Then some paragraphs. And before you know it, and entire book is down on the page!
2) What’s the first thing you do when finishing a new book?
Pop the Champagne! Literally. When I get close to the end of the book, I’ll buy a cheap bottle of champagne and put it in my fridge. That way, every time I open the fridge it reminds me I should be writing.
3) What scene or bit of dialogue in the book are you most proud of and why?
In Compromised, there are a few paragraphs explaining the existence of a (fictional) country called Barivia. I detail that the country is known for a minor artist, chocolates that are decidedly secondrate to Bavaria’s, and the fact that everyone there is named Roffstaam. It has a very pert tone, and for these few paragraphs, I use omnipresent voice, which is not common for romance novels. But, as Compromised was my first book, it’s safe to say I didn’t know that what I was doing was technically wrong. But it turned out so well, I kept it in. And thankfully, so did my editor.
4) Which came first, the title or the novel?
The story and characters always come first. I’ll sit down and figure out the story in an outline, and sometimes at that point I’ll have a title, but often, I’ll be halfway through the book before the title comes to me. Sometimes it doesn’t come at all, and it takes a good long brainstorming session with my editor before we figure it out.
5) What's up next for you?
I’m incredibly excited about my next historical romance, If I Fall, coming April 3rd from Berkley Sensation. It’s about Miss Sarah Forrester, who was disappointed recently in love and thus put up a wall of popularity around herself, and her childhood friend, Lieutenant Jackson Fletcher, the only one who can see that she’s hiding behind false smiles and flirtations. But when Jack decides to try and draw her out of from behind her gilded barricade, he does so in a way some might call rather extreme… by impersonating her childhood hero, the Blue Raven. But Sarah’s not the only one who believes Jack is the notorious English spy the Blue Raven, and they are both suddenly set on course for the adventure of a lifetime!
And, keep an eye out for a brand new e-novella, The Dress of the Season, this spring. It tells the tale of some other marvelous characters from the world of If I Fall – and notably, we get to find out what makes renowned dressmaker Madame LeTrois’s gowns so sought after!
About the Author:
Kate Noble loves books. Romances especially. But, being born into a family of doctors, scientists, and mathematicians, she didn’t discover she was adept at writing until, oh, about junior year of high school. Which came as something of a relief, as she was hopeless at memorizing the Latin names for all the bones in the human body. The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle eludes her to this day. Kate lives in Los Angeles. Visit the author online at: www.KateNoble.com.
